Happy Halloween, creepsters! I’m always so happy and at the same time so sad when this magical day finally arrives. Tonight I have something very special for you all, and it’s something I’ve never done before on the 13 Days of Halloween. But I’m sure my novice skills at videoing, editing, and interviewing will be glaringly obvious, but — hey — we all gotta start somewhere. Tonight I’m showcasing two of my besties’ son and his talent of creating some pretty bitchin’ masks. Taylor’s a pretty cool dude, and I love chatting with him about all the things that are creepy and cool. If you like this video interview thing I’m doing, let me know in the comments, and maybe I’ll do another one sometime in the very distant future.

When I asked Taylor for a SOTD recommendation, he had some great choices, and this is what he came up with . . .

I love the original by Radiohead, but if you’re looking for something a little different, it’s a pretty good cover.

Taylor’s a big fan of eyeball stuff. Like — just the eyes — pillows, art, miscellaneous decor, etc. His bearded dragon’s name? Eyeball! So everything for dinner tonight is eyeball-themed. Enjoy!

Eyeball Pasta Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 (16 oz.) package rigatoni
  • 2 Tbs. olive oil
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan, divided
  • 2 (24 oz.) jars pasta sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 to 3 mozzarella cheese sticks, sliced into ¼-inch rounds
  • Black olives

Directions

  1. Heat the oven to 400°F. Cook the pasta according to package directions; drain. Mix in 1 Tbs. olive oil and let cool.
  2. While the pasta is boiling, brush the inside of a 9-inch springform pan with olive oil. In a separate bowl, mix ½ cup Parmesan with the sauce.
  3. Add remaining Parmesan to the rigatoni and toss until the pasta is coated.
  4. Tilt the pan against a pot or bowl, then layer the pasta into the pan until it is filled. Adjust as needed so that they stand on their ends, then set the pan on its bottom. Pour on half the sauce, and cover with plastic wrap. Then tap the pan on the counter to work the sauce inside the pasta.
  5. Remove wrap, add remaining sauce, and bake for 15 minutes. Remove; top with shredded mozzarella.
  6. Bake 15 minutes or until the cheese is golden. Remove, add mozzarella rounds, and put back in for 2 minutes or until they are just barely melted.
  7. Slice ends from olives (or punch with a straw). Press olives into the melted cheese. Allow the pie to rest for 10 to 15 minutes, then remove the outer ring and slice to serve. 

No Bake Oreo Truffle Eyeballs

Ingredients

  • 1 package Oreos 20 cookies
  • 6 ounces cream cheese room temperature
  • 2 cups white chocolate
  • 1 Red Wilton Foodwriter pen
  • 1 Ready to Use Green Decorating Icing Or make your own using white icing and green food coloring
  • 30 Black M&M’s
Directions
  1. In a food processor, crush the Oreos until fine crumbs form. Transfer the mixture to the bowl of an electric mixer and combine with the cream cheese until smooth.
  2. Form the mixture into 30 balls of equal size and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment. Freeze the truffles for 30 minutes.
  3. Melt the white chocolate in a microwave safe bowl for 30 seconds and stir. Continue to microwave at 15 second intervals until completely melted. Remove the truffles from the freezer and dip one in the chocolate, turning to coat completely. Return the truffle to the baking sheet and allow to harden. Repeat with the remaining truffles until all are coated in chocolate.
  4. Using the Foodwriter pen, draw red veins all over the truffle.
  5. Add a dot of green icing to the top of the truffle and gently press an M&M on top.
  6. Transfer to an airtight containe and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.


Movie

(These old movie trailers are the best!) When asking Taylor why he picked this movie, he said, “There’s so many scenes I can’t stop thinking about. Like her [Jason’s mom] eyes — the way she’s acting like everything is okay when clearly it’s not.”
