Greetings fellow creepsters! I hope everyone is having a deranged (yet groovy) Halloween season so far. It’s hard to believe we’re less than a week away from Halloween night! How’re everyone’s costumes coming along? Are you one of the dudes that still doesn’t know what the hell they’re going to be for Halloween?

Well, maybe I can help flip your inspiration switch from . . .

. . . because for this day in the 13, I’ll be including cool AF monster costume tutorials. So today’s post is dedicated to the classic Halloween monsters: mummies, werewolves, zombies, and puppies. Just kidding! I was simply checking to see if you were really reading or just skimming. Let’s get started.

In this post

  • Cool AF Monster Costume Tutorials
  • Movie of the Day
  • Food

But first . . .

Ahh, Bowie. One of my absolute fave jams. Legendary.

Cool AF Monster Costume Tutorials

Camila Bravo

Now, personally, I’m not a big fan of the werewolf costume. I’ve seen it cheesed up too many feckin’ times. A werewolf is supposed to be threatening and unhinged. It should never look like this or this. I like this one. The fur and fangs are drawn on; it’s art–not cheesy. The contouring and highlighting are great. Fangs and brows–bitchin’. Hey, remember when Jack Nicholson was a werewolf, and Michelle Pheiffer was all in love with him? Good times.

This pumpkin, though! Usually, if someone tells me they’re going to be a pumpkin for Halloween it’s all I can do not to roll my eyes as far back into my skull as I possibly can. (And if they say their significant other is going to be Peter the pumpkin eater–well, in that case–I can’t stop from puking a little.) But this–this is menacing, and make no mistake, it willing be the one doing the chowing. BOOM! Drops mic . . .

Sonuvabitch, this is frightful!! Now, I know everyone usually says, “The contacts are what sells it.” And there are definitely occasions when I would agree with you, but here, I say bull shit. This makeup job is so sweetly delivered that this zombie would be off the charts scary without the contacts and wearing a pretty pink bow in its hair. Gaaah!!!

Now, I’ve done like 3 blog posts dedicated to vampires and all things vampy. Is it 3? Let’s see, there’s Vampire Venue, Vampires Only RSVP, and Vamp Camp. Oh, and Vampires vs Werewolves, but that’s got werewolves in it too–obs. Anywho, the point I was trying to make is I’ve already featured some pretty fangtastic (insert cringe here) vampire makeup artistry. So, this I time I went with something a little different and yet effectively scary. A proper nod to Buffy–enjoy.

Alex Faction

I love this version of Frankenstein. And I’m really digging this makeup artist! Super talented and fun to watch. For the month of October, he does 31 Halloween tutorials in 31 days. How can you not love that shit! And I swear to Samantha Stevens that every tutorial is amazeballs. So, the reason I chose this version of Frank is that I wanted a tutorial that wasn’t heavy in the prosthetic department. Plus, I think the whole pop art thing is cool as hell. Watch it. Love it. Do it.

Here’s another one I wanted to approach with a fresh perspective. This artist is crazy talented. She has tutorial after tutorial on some really great Halloween creatures/characters. I was a little apprehensive about featuring a ghost makeup tutorial–that is–until I saw this one. The Red Ghost. This, of course, is a nod to the movie Crimson Peak and the creepy as all feck, red ghost. This movie stars Tom Hiddleston and, well, who honestly cares who else is in this movie? Anywho, this makeup tutorial is a scream. I’ll definitely be featuring more from her in the future.

Alex Faction

Once again, guys and ghouls, a tutorial by the wonderfully talented Alex Faction. This was another classic monster that I was hesitant to feature. I mean, I had visions of it going something like this. Luckily, I stumbled upon this badass makeup tutorial and my spooky little world made sense once again!

Alison Henry

This makeup tutorial is not only a nod to the intense scare factor of aliens–Invasion of the Body SnatchersSigns–hello!! Scary shit happening! Errm . . . where was I . . . not only an intense scare . . . oh, yeah . . . but it’s also a nod to my down girl, Cierra. She digs the creepy little suckers and has a kickass tattoo to prove it. Here’s to you, chick. This is a great tutorial for a classic alien life form-type look. And even though the artist seems super out of her element and unsure when presenting the finished look, I think she rocked it.

This right here is epic. I decided to divert from you’r standard demon/devil imagery and found this delightfully demented tutorial showing you how to look like Krampus, the Christmas demon. Once again, this extremely talented artist has brought it! I mean, have you seen Krampus? Have you? If not, click here. OK so now that you’ve watched it, do you see what I’m getting at? AAAHHH!!! Anywho, I’d like to give a shoutout to all those people (and the Hallmark channel) who try to pretend the Halloween season doesn’t even exist so they can start the Christmas season in feckin’ October or start playing the 500 days of Christmas movies on October-f-in-thirty-first! When I see shit like this . . .

It makes me feel like yelling this . . .

Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas as much as the next guy but dammit. Wait your turn Christmas lovers, and let us haunt in peace! Rant over . . . for now.

Dumb Ass Clown

Shonagh Scott

Here’s a clown makeup tutorial. They’re super scary so I had to include them on the monster list. Stupid Poltergeist!!! Let me know if the tutorial is any good. I didn’t watch it. And we’re moving on.

Movie of the Day

For one of the history classes I took a few years back I did a final project on Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, and I was simply fascinated with how she came up with the idea for Frankenstein. I think the reason I love this version of Frankenstein so much is because it somehow feels more connected to her than the other versions. I dig it.

Double Feature

It simply wouldn’t be Halloween without watching Young Frankenstein at least once. I never tire of watching this movie, and it never fails to make me laugh. How many of you sing “Puttin’ on the Ritz” the way Peter Boyle does? No? Just me? . . . umm . . . ok . . . moving on then.

Tonight, we’re having some fun with the menu by making a meal out of appetizers. So, I’ve got a variety of recipes to share with you, and don’t worry, I’m including a dessert and a couple of beverages too. I have a recipe lined up to coincide with each one of our monsters from the list–except fuckin’ clowns.

Werewolf Kibble

Werewolf Kibble

Apparently, this is what Werewolves are eating these days, and it looks yummy. Click here for the recipe.

Perfect Pumpkin Seeds

How To Make Perfect Pumpkin Seeds

I’ve never really gotten into chowing pumpkin seeds. But this recipe sounds so delish that I just may start! Here’s how to make it.

Rice Crispy Treat Brains

Totally delicious, totally creepy Rice Crispy Treat Brainsare perfect for your Halloween or Mad Scientist get togethers.

Braaaaaains!!! Aren’t these cute? And I love that they’re made out of Rice Crispy treats–yum. I’m pretty sure you dudes know how to make Rice Crispy Treats, but I’m going to put the link to the recipe here–you know–mostly for the brain shaping DIY.

Vampire Hot Chocolate

Vampire Hot Chocolate

I love how yummy this looks! I’ve never made this one but the recipe found here sounds amazing! I mean, we’re talking about making our own whipped cream here! Decadent, peeps. This will be tonight’s non-alcoholic bev–enjoy!

Frank’s Dirty Q-tips

Dirty Qtip treat anyone? They might be gross to look at, but they will be a spooky hit at your Halloween party!

I love these for so many reasons: they’re fun to make, they’ve got ick factor, and I’m a sucker for caramel. I’m adding Frank’s name to these Dirty Q-tips in keeping with tonight’s monster fest. Here’s how ya make ’em.

Liquefied Ghosts

Halloween Inspired Cocktails: Liquified Ghost |

Yep, tonight we’re having 2 different kinds of bevies. And this one would be the alcoholic portion of our evening. For me, it’s not the licorice wheel garnish that adds an unexpected twist but the lemon-lime soda. Intriguing. Find out how to make the Liquefied (it’s spelled wrong in the photo–oh well) Ghost here.

Jalapeño Mummies

Here’s a fun way to reinvent the Jalapeño popper. These are so good! I actually prefer the croissant wrap over the deep fried batter. Wanna make ’em? Click here.

Little Devils Meringue Cookies

Little Devils Meringue Cookies

Now, I’m not big on meringue (mostly because I’m not very good at making it) but these are simply too cute to not share. Aren’t they though? Click here to make these–lil devils!

Now I realize I didn’t share an alien-themed recipe, and I feel kinda bad about that, so I’m going to make it up to you with this helpful DIY.

Good times . . .

Well, that’s it for another day in the 13 Days of Halloween. I hope you enjoy your monster fest.

Until next time . . .
