Welcome to the 13 Days of Halloween
So, today was my oldest g-daughter’s birthday party. She turned 8 this year, and for the first time in the history of her, she decided to have a Halloween themed birthday party. I was ready to step in and take charge of the planning, that is, until I realized my daughter was just as excited about this party as I was. So, I took a step back and let her run with it, all the while still making myself available if she asked for helped. I ended up in charge of cupcakes and decorating. Since the theme of the party was all things Halloween, tonight’s post will be a little bit of this and a little bit of that–but still–all things Halloween. That never changes. By the way, birthday girl dressed as the Queen of Hearts, thus the cover photo. Let’s get started.

Eye of Newt
So, in my post The Vamp Camp, I said I would post the recipe for these little bites of magic in Saturday’s post . . . but I forgot. My apologies–here ya go.
Ingredients
- 4 8-inch flour tortillas
- 1 8-oz pkg cream cheese
- 1 8-oz pkg thin-sliced ham
- 1 10-oz jar green olives
Directions
- Spread cream cheese to within an inch of the tortilla and add a single layer of ham. Tightly roll up the tortilla and seal edge with a thin layer of cream cheese.
- Slice of and discard ends (we eat them). Cut rolls into 1-inch slices, add some cream cheese to the top of slices and place a sliced green olive on the top each.
Dude, I’m telling you, these will be gone as quickly as you can make them. The cool thing is, you can keep a couple of roll ups in the fridge, and then when you’re ready for another chow down, you can take ’em out and cut ’em up.
Boogers on a Stick (yeah, you read it right)
Ingredients
- 1 bag of pretzel sticks
- 1 jar of Cheese Whiz
- green food coloring
Directions
- Heat up the Cheese Whiz in the microwave for about a minute. Add a few drops of green food coloring and mix it up.
- Dip the tips of the pretzels in the Cheese Whiz and place on wax paper to cool.
These are the greatest. I must say that the green food coloring, plus the color of the Cheese Whiz, really makes the perfect shade of booger. I’ve been making these since our first 13 days of Halloween forever ago. Now, my daughter is making them for her kids. Love it! I apologize if the recipe isn’t very precise, but I make these from memory now, and they still turn out fine. A great snack with a great name.
Frogs’ Breath
The recipe for this can be found here.
Song of the Day
Tonight’s Movie
Bonus Scene
If you haven’t seen this movie yet . . . well . . . this. This movie is so off beat and yet completely funny. I mean, holy sugar cookie, that’s pretty funny. The cast alone makes this movie a winner, even before it starts. Nothing to lose, dude. Watch it!
Dinner, Beverage, Dessert
Tonight’s Menu:
- Bloody Fingers
- French Fried Worms
- Left over Frog’s Breath
- more Birthday Cupcakes
No recipe needed for this one.
Ingredients
- hot dogs and buns
- curly fries and ketchup
Directions
Carve up the hot dogs to look like fingers before you boil them. Liberally (or not) dose with ketchup before eating.
All-in-all it was a great day in the 13.
Until tomorrow . . .
